This collection includes digital copies of fourteen scrapbooks, six photo albums, and loose scrapbook and album pages from the Count Basie family papers and artifacts. The scrapbooks and albums document the lives, careers, and interests of Catherine, Diane, and Count Basie and their extended family as well as their professional and social networks, including extensive content about the Count Basie Orchestra. The materials date from the early 1900s to the 1980s and include press clippings, ephemera, concert programs, photographs, memorabilia, and correspondence belonging to the Basie family.
The Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, received a project support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State, to process the Count Basie family papers and artifacts. Conservation and preservation of the Count Basie family papers and artifacts was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Park Service, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities.
